Rogue Bloom Bouquet

What the heck is a rogue bloom bouquet? Stay tuned gentle reader? But first, here’s a warm (and bright colored) welcome to you. What happens here? I am glad you asked. Each week I share a colorful painting, a painting in progress or other painting related activities. My hope is these color clad images delight your eyes and lift your spirits! If you’re new here and would like to receive these weekly posts, subscribe here. Let’s look more closely at this week’s painting, OK?
Rogue Bloom Reloaded
Last week, I shared a single rogue bloom. This week I’m sharing the finished 12 x 12 inch oil painting on panel. These blooms are straight out of our yard. Is it me or has this spring been just amazing? I love that, in the midst of all the political madness, Mother Nature is putting on the best show ever! It warms my heart. Here’s the painting!

If this looks as if I had fun painting it, you’re right I did. Having the chance to paint those fire red azalea blooms next to those delicate cool pink dog wood bracts or blooms (or whatever you call them) was a delight. And that crazy lime green in the corner? Oh yes that was fun too! I love lime green.
See It In Person
If you live in or near Raleigh, NC, here’s an invitation to come see this painting and those of 13 other painters, print makers and photographers too. Where? Here are the details for the Forest Park Art Show.

April 10, 2025Lovely! I also love lime green, especially juxtaposed with reds and pinks. : )
As a favorite painter friend says, ooh-la-la!

April 10, 2025Lovely painting, Julie! Beautiful color palette and a wonderful sense of space you created around the azalea on the left especially. I also really like how the light reddish ground peeks through in spots making the background especially rich.
I’ve been seeing many flowers blooming around me; a welcome site after the dreary winter months.
Congratulations again on the show!! xoxo

April 10, 2025Hi Alexandra,
TY for such painterly obervations! Some planned (reddish ground) and some serendipitous (space round blooms).
I’m so glad you are seeing flowers bloom in western NC; a well-deserved respite for you and yours there. xoxo

April 10, 2025This is a stunning painting, Julie. Between the colors – love the line green! – and the … presentation or use of space, this is, to me, sophisticated in a new and different way. There seems to be almost more dimensions at work in this painting than usual. Maybe it’s me. We are living with highs in the 40s – ugh. The peepers have retreated into the mud. The blooms seem frozen in place waiting for more warmth and sunshine. This is such an uplifting painting for that reason as well. Good luck this weekend. Hope it’s fu.

April 12, 2025Hi Beth,
TY so much…I have yet to think of the word “sophisticated” and my paintings in the same light. So I really appreciate you saying and seeing that!!!
It’ been cool at night here lately too. That means continued chances to see dogwood tree and azalea blooms. Stay warm and lots o love to you and yours. xoxo
