Delightful Details

Delightful Details

Whoops! Why delightful details? Well, because you get a glimpse of the back of a painting in today’s blog post. I’ll share more information about this but first, let’s welcome new readers and share the purpose of this post and blog.

Small Spaces Special Places

Welcome new readers! Each year, I select a theme for my weekly paintings. This year’s is “Small Spaces Special Places.” Why? I have been surprised, even delighted, with the small spaces in our house that have captured my eye.

Also, there are the special places I see on my daily dog walks. Each morning, rain or shine, I love getting outdoors and looking for things to paint. Some weeks, we’re traveling in our camper. In either case, I start many of my paintings outdoors. Then I’ll finish them, usually from imagination, in my studio at home.

Anyway, if you are not subscribing to this blog yet and think you might enjoy a weekly dose of unique artwork with a dash of color and musings on life, sign up here. Let’s get to this week’s topic!

December and Delightful Details

As I shared in last week’s post and the previous, previous week’s post, I am in the process of preparing 30 paintings for sale at Golden Belt Studios in Durham, NC this Friday from 6-9 pm. The things is, I did not grow up in a handy house. What does that mean? Well, I certainly know there are people out there whose mamas wielded power tools like a boss. Now, they are wielding said tools in front of their children and inspiring them to fix, create and repair. But in my house, there were lots of wonderful activities going on but building and fixing things was not one of them. What does that mean?

Well, it just means that if you were going to bet that someone of a certain age is a savvy power tool user, you wouldn’t bet on me. Until now.

And, at first, I confess I felt trembling fear at what I did not know I could do before starting on the work of spiffing up paintings for gallery walls. But here we are two weeks later and shazam, my little paintings are all dressed up and ready to go. See?

Why Share

You may be wondering why I bother to share this with you. After all, framing and prepping paintings is one of those things that I sure never thought much about – even when I bought a painting. But like most things, the more you know about something, the more there is to appreciate about it. And, now it feels as if the painting is not quite finished until these details are done.

I feel really lucky that I have had the time to pay attention to each of these paintings that will be for sale. And to use care as I get them ready to display. And for you super knowledgeable framing people out there, have you found “D-rings” small enough for 3″x3″ inch paintings? I could not find them anywhere. So I used the saw tooth hanger you can see in the image above instead.

Delightful Details Wrap Up

That’s a wrap for this week’s topic! If you live locally I would be so excited to see you in person at the opening this Friday night. Here are the details one more time: Golden Belt Studios 800 Taylor St Durham NC. Friday night, December 17th from 6-9pm. I look forward to seeing you there.

I will be offering special holiday discount prices of up to 15% on each painting. And, I will be donating 10% of total sales to the Food Bank of North Carolina. So stop by and nourish your eyes and help nourish people, too.

And, if you can’t make it, no worries. I will update my online gallery after the sale so you can shop from afar. Just know that, at this point, any online sales will not arrive in time for the Christmas Holiday.

And, if you are working on some delightful details of your own, please do share in the comments below. I would love to know!

Beautiful, Julie! I’m very impressed. The framing looks very professional and I love how you created a brand from one of your lovely paintings as an identifier for the back of each work.

I’m very excited about the show. I’ll be thinking of you and look forward to hearing a full report!

WISH I COULD BE THERE! I’m so excited for you, even more so knowing about the framing details. Your brain must be so happy learning all sorts of different things. All because of painting.

I’ll be there in spirit! Have fun.
