Do the Trees Speak

Do the Trees Speak

Why in the world would I ask you (and myself) “Do the Trees Speak?” I will share my thoughts here today, gentle reader! But first, here is information about this blog. This is a place where, each week, I share my paintings, process, occasional infuences from art history and inspiration. Whether this is your first or millionth visit here, hiya, hello and a warm welcome! I choose a theme to guide my paintings each year. To read about this year’s painting theme, check the description in this link here. To subscribe and get a weekly dose of color for yourself, subscribe here. Ready for more about this week’s view? OK! Here goes!

Inspiration

I started this painting on location in Maine during our fall 2023 road trip north. Usually I take a photo of my set up to share with you. For some reason, I did not do that with this painting. But, I do remember being drawn to this grove of trees at the back of our campsite at Acadia Seashore Cabins and Camping in Sullivan Maine. And, I do remember beautiful red sunlit skies most nights during our stays there.

So, that’s why you can see a smidge of pink in the sky in the upper left corner. Here’s the painting which is 12×6 inches and painted on a linen panel.

If you have to have this in your collection (yay!), please contact me here. It’s for sale for $197 + $14.28 tax + $25 shipping = $236.28.

More Inspiration

Sometimes the simplest things can lead to inspiration. Have you found that to be true? For instance, I realized that I started this painting a month ago. And, just the simple act of setting it aside for a few weeks helped me see it and revisit it with fresh eyes and ideas. This year’s painting theme of “Time and Attention” is relevant and, well, timely!

How About You

How about you, gentle reader? Have you heard the trees speak in this beautiful season? If yes, please share! If not, what speaks to you this time of year? Perhaps you see the leaves rustling as they fall to the ground? We haven’t seen the leaf colors change yet here. But maybe, where you are, you’re seeing that now? Either way, I would love to hear from you! Thank you as always for looking and reading here today.

Love this painting, Julie. I think it’s that pink in the upper left corner that makes it more than just a painting. It has depth and … some indefinable quality. Just gorgeous!

      Hi Beth,

Thank youuuu! There were so many red skies at the end of the day during this fall’s road trip. It was even peaking through all of these trees. So, I had to include it. TY for noticing and commenting xoxo

    Hey Julie,

The many cottonwood trees in our neighborhood have leaves that wave from side to side like a 3 year old waving ‘bye-bye’ !!! As I sit on our deck in the morning or evening I see them waving at me as I listen and smell the yard that surrounds our backyard.

When the cottonwood seeds are floating through the neighborhood, I try to visualize them as fairies flitting hither and thither.

This time of year the sunsets are tinged with gold from the setting sun’s light bouncing off the baseball fields west of our home adding more magic. I see a little of that gold in the leaves in the upper left ! Thanks for sharing !!!
