Revealing Raleigh

Revealing Raleigh

Revealing Raleigh: Exploring Real and Imaginary Landscapes is the name of an upcoming show I have. And, even though the show is not till July, I want to share the details with you so, if you’re nearby, you can visit! But before I delve into that, here’s some back story on this blog. Whether this is your first or millionth visit here, hiya, hello and a warm welcome! To read about this year’s painting theme, check the description in this link here. To subscribe and get a weekly dose of color and these blog posts, subscribe here. Let’s get to the details on this show. OK?

What Is The Focus

In this show, I decided to focus on a simple premise. That is, the more I look, the more I see. This is both the challenge and the joy of painting outdoors. In all of the paintings in this show, I love capturing moments, sometimes real and other times imaginary. If you live in the area, you may recognize some of the places I have captured in paint.

But, I also like to think of these paintings as universal, typically quiet and restorative moments in the outdoors. And, the good news is, you can enjoy these moments in nature without bug spray or sunscreen!

One Example

Here’s one example of the paintings that will be in the show. It’s called “Edna Metz Wells Park #1.” It, like all the other paintings, is matted, framed and ready to hang on your wall.

Revealing Raleigh - Exploring Real and Imaginary Landscapes by Julie Dyer Holmes

If you live in or visit downtown Raleigh, you may have overlooked this park. Why? It’s small, just under 3 acres. But, thanks to the creek that passes through it, and the pine covered path with a bridge, Edna Metz Wells Park offers a quiet, respite to the bustle of downtown Raleigh.

What Does NOFO Mean

So the gallery is located in NOFO @ THE PIG 2014 Fairview Road, Raleigh, NC 27608. So what does NOFO mean? I’m so glad you asked! NOFO is short for “North Fourth Street,” the owner’s street location name of the original gallery in Wilmington, NC. As the owner’s location has moved and evolved, she has kept NOFO in the name.

The Pig in the name “NOFO @ THE PIG” is a reference to the gallery building’s original form as a Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store. How cool is that?

When Is The Show

I know it’s only the end of May! But I wanted to share that the show will be up at NOFO @ THE PIG for the entire month of July. So, if you’re still scheming and dreaming about travel plans towards North Carolina in July, consider adding Raleigh and NOFO @ THE PIG to your schedule. There’s a cafe serving delicious food, a super fun gift shop and the gallery, too.

That’s the Latest

So that’s the latest from Raleigh, NC, gentle reader. Do you think you might be able to visit in July? Or do you have other adventures in the works? Either way, please do share in the comments below and thank you for reading today!

So excited for you and this show! I wish I lived close enough to come and see it in person. Congratulations.

This painting has something about it that is … alive (the best word I can think of) to me. It’s very serene. Lovely to my eye.
